MOMENTS IN 007 HISTORY

September 1

* 1980: Director John Glen began make-up tests on actress Carole Bouquet for For Your Eyes Only.

September 2

* 1980: Filming of For Your Eyes Only began in the North Sea with exterior shots of the British Intelligence boat disguised as a fishing trawler.

September 3

* 1984: The A View to a Kill film crew recreated the Royal Ascot races at the Ascot Racecourse, Ascot, Berkshire, England.

September 5

* 1976: Director Lewis Gilbert filmed Richard Kiel’s first scenes as Jaws for The Spy Who Loved Me.

* 1978: Filmmakers for Moonraker began filming at the San Nicolo Monastery on the Venice, Lido.

September 15

* 1964: A memorial service was held for Ian Fleming, who had passed away on August 12th, at the church of St. Bartholomew The Great in Smithfield, England. The memorial address was delivered by William Plomer.

* 1980: The cast and crew of For Your Eyes Only flew to Greece to continue filming.

September 16

* 1996: Roger Spottiswoode was announced as the director of “Bond 18″ (Tomorrow Never Dies).

September 17

* 1964: The British premiere of Goldfinger, the third “official” James Bond film, was held at the Odeon Cinema, Leicester Square in London, England.

* 1966: Touted as Communism’s answer to James Bond, a serialization of Bulgarian author Andrei Gulyashki’s Avakoum Zahov Versus 07 began running in Komsomolskaya Pravda, the Moscow youth newspaper.

* 1986: After finally having announced Timothy Dalton as James Bond, The Living Daylights began filming on Gibralter with BJ Worth and Jake Lombard performing aerial stunts.

September 22

* 1959: Jack Whittingham had his first meeting with Kevin McClory about what would eventually become Thunderball.

September 27

* 1982: Principal photography on Never Say Never Again, the second “unofficial” James Bond film, began in Nice, France.

September 29

* 1986: Principal photography on The Living Daylights, the fifteenth “official” James Bond film, began.

* 1999: The World is Not Enough U.S. one-sheet poster was released.

September 30

* 1966: Yury Zhukov, a top political commentator for the Russian Communist Party newspaper Pravda, derided James Bond as “an unthinking murderer and rapist.” In Zhukov’s article, Bond was compared to Nazi war criminals, and deemed to share a philosophy similar to that of the commandant of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
